Field Technician

FIELD TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt      EEO Class:  7 - Operatives   
Department: Rentals 
Reports to: Assistant General Manager / Lead Technicians
Supervises: N/A

General Summary

The Field Technician is responsible for assisting in the delivery, set-up, operation, dismantling and load-out of lighting equipment and supplies needed for clients’ live events (i.e. corporate meetings, concerts, theatrical productions, special events, etc.) 

Responsibilities of Position: Duties include but are not limited to:

Organizational Responsibilities

Depending on the needs of the particular assignment, perform any or all of the following duties:

  • Unload and load trucks.
  • Move equipment to set up location.
  • Set-up gear including lighting fixtures, trusses and/or ground support systems, and other production equipment.
  • Hang lighting instruments properly.
  • Run, coil and/or tape power and control cables.
  • Strike equipment upon completion of event and pack equipment cases.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work unconventional, varied schedules including overnight shifts.
  • Ability to be contacted and respond on short notice.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl and/or sit on the floor.
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights.
  • Ability to work in variously lit environments.
  • Ability to repeatedly and regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to read and speak English.
  • Ability to work out-of-doors, sometimes in remote locations subject to prevailing weather conditions.
  • Ability to work, think, and react in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively in absence of direct supervision.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of basic theatrical lighting equipment.
  • Good problem-solving skills, common sense and good judgment.
  • Excellent understanding of all company safety requirements.

Physical Requirements

The job duties and tasks of this position require the employee to regularly stand and walk. Regular use of computer monitors and a keyboard/mouse will be required. The employee must regularly push, pull, bend, climb, reach, twist, and kneel as well as lift and/or move 50 pounds. Other physical requirements of the job include communication and visual acuity such as close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the employee will not be in a temperature-controlled work environment and may experience temperature variations due to local weather conditions.

Availability

  • Must be available to work in the evenings and weekends, as required.

Position Location and/or Territory and Travel

  • Local travel is required to job sites majority of the time, on occasion, there will be out of town travel.

  • Based on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), management has analyzed this position and determined it to be non-exempt.
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive and will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
